Manzanar Fishing Club Film Event As part of the Searching for Democracy Film Festival the Library presents The Manzanar Fishing Club, a feature-length documentary that chronicles the Japanese-American internment during World War II from a different perspective. Join us Saturday, October 13 at 2:00PM in the Main Library Auditorium.
The film features the story of internees who sought out fishing grounds in the Eastern Sierras despite the armed guards, barbed wire and searchlights. The personal stories go beyond the confinement itself, and instead highlight the courage, responsibility and cooperation that enable the human spirit to survive in difficult times. Interviews with experts provide new insight into the social and political backdrop of the internment.
Free event. This event is made possible by California Reads with support from Cal Humanities, in partnership with California Center for the Book. Visit www.calhum.org for more information.
