About Us Established in 1962, the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Our first goal is to preserve the freedom of the library and prevent censorship. We also advocate for a strong public library system. We provide materials, support summer reading programs, provide cultural and literary events for the community, fund training for library staff, and keep abreast of current issues affecting the library.
Friends of the Library Board Meetings & Members Learn about our Board meetings (open to all) with dates and board member responsibilities. Learn about our annual meeting.
Thinking of reducing your collection of Coffee Table Books on the arts, gardening, planes, trains, history, military, travel and anything great? Think of donating to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library. The Friends’ Bookstore at Main Library successfully auctions gently used books every month and can always use more. Proceeds from the auctions and bookstore are used to purchase new books for the library.
Egyud Memorial Scholarship
In June 2017, Long Beach lost one of its greatest champions for literacy, Barbara Egyud. Barbara believed that it was the responsibility of all of us to make sure opportunities for literacy were made available to everyone. Barbara was always working on programs that would support getting books to children, educating parents to help their children succeed, and providing information that our children are aware of the opportunities available to them. It’s our responsibility to assure that there are opportunities out there; it’s our children’s job to pursue and use every opportunity available to become our leaders. The Barbara Egyud Memorial Scholarship is a small effort to continue and honor Barbara’s passion and love for our libraries, and what they can mean to our future.
Join Us We're always looking for people to join the board, work on a special committee, volunteer in the bookstore, or help at special events. To join, please print and complete the membership application and mail it the address below.
