Friends of the Long Beach Public Library

About Us
Established in 1962, the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Our first goal is to preserve the freedom of the library and prevent censorship. We also advocate for a strong public library system. We provide materials, support summer reading programs, provide cultural and literary events for the community, fund training for library staff, and keep abreast of current issues affecting the library.

Bookstore & Silent Auction
Support us by shopping at the Friends of the Library Bookstore

Time to reduce your collection of clean, gently used books, DVDs, CDs or recent magazines?  Consider donating to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library and receive a tax deductible receipt. Proceeds from the bookstore are used to purchase new materials for our libraries.

Our silent auction has been suspended due to construction. Check back in October 2019.

Egyud Memorial Scholarship

In June 2017, Long Beach lost one of its greatest champions for literacy, Barbara Egyud. Barbara believed that it was the responsibility of all of us to assure opportunities for literacy were made available to everyone, and this $1,000 scholarship is an effort to continue her legacy.

Applications for the scholarship will be available to high school seniors who have applied for college classes, and who have volunteered or worked at a Long Beach Public Library for at least 6 months. Volunteers or library staff who are already enrolled in college and are continuing may also apply.

The scholarship will be available beginning in January 2019 and awarded at the May 2019 Friends of the Long Beach Public Library Annual Meeting.  Information and applications will be available in January on the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library site at www.lbpl.org, select the “Support the Library” information tab and select Friends of the Library. Applications will also be available at the branch libraries.
